Today, my classmates and I were able to use a reflector disk for a project in our basic television production course. In our project we were tasked with taking 6 shots with the props used to demonstrate the effects and look of a reflector disk.
Here is the first behind the scenes picture of some of my classmates, Jalon, T.K., and Kimora. Here you can see the overall set up from a third person pov with our camera, tripod, reflector disk, and microphone.
In the second pic here, T.K. has the mic Jalon is behind the camera, and Kimora is holding the reflection disk. From here, the light on T.K was very visible from the reflector disk and the attention to the angle of the disk helped make T.K.'s face pop more.
As previously mentioned, Kimora was holding the reflection disk and can be seen here challenging the shine with her smile.
Here is an after look at the effects of the reflection disk, the clarity and crisp of the shot can be seen in the before shot before with the added glare. Here T.K is clearly visible with a little bling from her grillz.
Ironically, this being the last picture when it was the first picture only shows justice to the improvements the reflector disk gave. Here T.K isn't as clearly visible as she is with the added highlight of the reflector disk. Overall in this project a lot was learned and many new tricks were gained in use of lighting outside. For natural light this reflector disk may be the best option for outdoor films. Minus a little heat index caused by the aluminium covering of the disk.
